In September 2017 the Elm Springs Police Department purchased our first Speed Monitoring Awareness Radar Trailer or SMART unit for short.  100% of the funds used to purchase this unit came from the sale of excess property.  Its purpose is to assist the department in our mission to encourage safe vehicle operation throughout our community.  With increased awareness, it is our hope that motor vehicle collisions, as well as traffic violations overall, will decrease.  In addition to alerting drivers to their speed, the trailer also records vehicle activity in the area it is placed, performs traffic counts, and provides extensive speed and traffic data to assist us in our enforcement efforts.
